Martial Arts Classes for the whole family!

Fortitude Martial Arts Academy offers a variety of Taekwon-Do classes in KentSussex, and Surrey.  Operating a satellite location in Oldham, Lancashire.

Our Instructors expertly teach fun and friendly Taekwon-Do classes, where students can begin training from 3 years old.

We take great pride in the vast age range of our students training.  It especially, goes without saying that we enjoy our fun interactive classes with our younger students. These classes are energetic; a symbiosis of entertainment and education.

At the core of all our classes are the tenets of Taekwon-Do.

Our teens and adults classes are also energetic, but we focus on in depth knowledge-based classes.  Remarkably, some of our students are in their 60s, training for over 20 years with us, and still benefitting from not only the physical training, but the moral culture we instil.

Above all, we are dedicated to our students, and care passionately about our student’s progression, providing highly motivating and enjoyable classes.

We follow the ITF Taekwon-Do syllabus, acknowledging the teachings of Grand Masters and Masters who trained with our ITF Taekwon-Do Founder – Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi 9th Dan.

Our Classes

Our classes are open to beginners from any age and can benefit the whole family!

All our classes follow a syllabus offering students progression through a belt system.  Often students start their journey with our Ninjas class for 3-5 year olds.  Next, students move into the Dragons class for 6-8 year olds.  Continuing with their progression into the Juniors class for 9-12 year olds.  Finally, becoming Seniors (Teens / Adults) class from 13 years +.  We have separate adult 16 years + and teens 13-16 year olds classes.

Increasingly popular are our Family Classes.  This is where our members enjoy learning alongside their family, enjoying the huge benefits martial arts, and in particular Taekwon-Do have to offer.  The classes are structured so that you can comfortably train together with your family. We recommend that children are aged from 6 years old when participating with a family member.

Who are we?

What do we teach?

We teach a traditional ITF Taekwon-Do syllabus with modern martial art training methods.  This enables our students to learn a realistic self-defence in exciting and fun classes. We are associated to the National Taekwon-Do Alliance UK (NTAUK) who are affiliated to ITF HQ.

Taekwon-Do is an art of self-defence founded by a Korean General named Choi Hong Hi (Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi 9th Degree 1918-2002). Officially, Taekwon-Do was recognised on 11th April 1955, after exhaustive researching, developing, and experimenting.  General Choi proclaimed Taekwon-Do to the world as a completely valid and unique martial art.

Taekwon-Do translated literally means:

‘Tae’ stands for kicking, jumping, flying, or smashing with the foot.

‘Kwon’ denotes the fist – chiefly to punch or destroy with the hand or fist.

‘Do’ means the art or the way – the right way built by Saints and Sages of the past.

what people say

"My sons attend Taekwondo, one is in Ninjas (3-5 year olds), and the other in Dragons (6-8 year olds). My elder son joined last year and gets excited every week he goes. He enjoys it massively!! My younger son is non-verbal autistic, and although some days he does not want to play ball, Master Hodson is fantastic with him. He is patient, kind, and always gets my son involved in the class! Mrs Hodson is also truly kind and approachable; it is a very friendly class. I am really pleased I introduced both my boys to Taekwondo, and I believe this will be their passion for a long time!! I would recommend Fortitude to all my friends!!!"

"My son started taekwondo at Fortitude 5 years ago and loves it! In addition to the fitness and self-defence benefits, he has gained maturity and confidence in a family-friendly environment. Mr Harrold is an excellent role model, highly knowledgeable, professional, and supportive, particularly during lockdown, when he went above and beyond expectations. I have recommended Fortitude to friends and honestly believe it has benefited my son to become the well rounded boy he is today. Thanks again to Mr Harrold and the Fortitude team."
